It was a fun week in the library as students had their first week of check out. I absolutely love this week. Kids of all ages get so excited to explore the shelves and choose books for themselves. First graders are thrilled to choose two books, while fifth graders are just as excited to delve into the books their peers have recommended.
I love it when students return with great new reads they think we should have in our library. We have a wish list in our library that students can add to when they are inspired. It's fun to have them recommend books to each other and also for our library.
This year I tried something new and had our older kiddos model some of our library routines. They practiced them in a group and then they showed the rest of the class. While they demonstrated a routine, I recorded the demo. When the kinders and first graders came for check out this week, they got to watch the video demonstration modeled by our older students. They loved seeing people they knew and it gave them a short, visual model of our check out routine. Check out these student below, modeling our check out routine.
