Where do you enjoy a good book? Are you going on vacation, camping, hiking, swimming, perhaps hanging out in your fort in the backyard? Wherever you are this summer, take a good book (or ebook) and enjoy! While you’re at it, have someone snap a photo of you and send it to Mrs. Page to be a part of our Summer Reading Celebration!

Join us for the second annual Summer Reading Celebration! Last summer was our first time participating and it was fun to see all the creative places readers enjoyed a good book. Let’s see if we can top some of the creative places people read last summer. Check out this link (scroll down a bit) to photos sent in last year to get inspired! Mrs. Page wants to see where you read all summer long. Anyone can participate, it’s easy! Just follow the instructions below and have fun reading!
- Snap a picture of yourself reading somewhere. It can be anywhere: in a tree, on a mountain top, camping by a lake, or anywhere you find yourself enjoying a book this summer (just remember to take care of the book ☺).
- Upload the pictures to a computer or simply share using the device you took the picture with: iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, tablet, computer, you get the idea.
- Ask permission to email your photo to Mrs. Page (amy.page@springfield.k12.or.us). By emailing the picture you grant permission for the library to post your picture on the Walterville library blog.
- Prizes will be given to the four or five most unusual photos. Our judges will be from Mrs. Babcock’s library at Ridgeview Elementary. Walterville Staff are encouraged to participate too. Let’s keep an eye out for the fun places we all enjoy reading this summer and visit the Walterville Library Blog throughout (http://blog.springfield.k12.or.us/weslibrary/).
That’s not all that’s going on this summer. Check out Springfield Public Library’s Calendar of Events. They have everything from yoga, crafts, story times, Mind Craft Boot Camp, to Lego Camp, Pop-up Engineering and they run their own summer reading program too! Also, check out their summer newsletter, that highlights summer reading activities and has some great book recommendations and activities for all ages.
Are you techy? Then check out some of our own ebooks all throughout the summer. Just login to your Destiny account and go to Follett Shelf under the “Catalog” tab. Enjoy new books throughout the summer on a smart phone or tablet device. Need help downloading an ebook on your device? This should help. Also, Tumblebooks is a great resource for young readers.
Also, for you techy and social people, here are some sites (courtesy of Common Sense Media) you might be interested in that allow for sharing your thoughts about a book:

Also, for you techy and social people, here are some sites (courtesy of Common Sense Media) you might be interested in that allow for sharing your thoughts about a book:
Harry Potter Reading Club: Are you a Harry Potter fan? This site offers free access to the books, as well as discussion questions and activities. Check it out! |

National Geographic Kids: Do you enjoy reading about animals and their habitats, different cultures from around the world, countries and geography? This site has videos, pictures, and more!

Reading Rainbow: Need some new reading ideas? This site has tons of book talks and videos that will give you new reading inspiration.

BiblioNasium: I am excited to introduce this new site for sharing and reviewing books with friends and teachers. Students will read a book and log their reading on BiblioNasium. They can then share how they felt about the book with others and write a short review. Our school can work together to reach a summer reading goal. Look for parent information and students logins in the near future.
Hopefully, we will all be in touch through Biblio Nasium this summer to share our great reads and reach some new reading goals. Remember to send in your pictures of your favorite, most original places to read. Have a great summer and happy reading!
